Montagnard Counterparts Veterans Association Memorial
Description:
Montagnards, a people indigenous to the Central Highlands of Vietnam, were special allies to U.S. troops during the Vietnam War, serving as interpreters, scouts, and soldiers. The monument was placed in Arlington National Cemetery in 2015 to honor "The Forgotten Army", consisting of Montagnard allies, Khmer Krom, Cham, and other minority groups living in the Central Highlands. Because of the major contributions by the Montagnards during the Vietnam War, many American servicemen pushed to help resettle thousands of Montagnards in the U.S. to help them escape persecution from the Vietnamese government.
