This memorial, located in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens, celebrates the rich history and culture of India, and honor the significant Indian community in Cleveland. It memorializes Mahatma Gandhi, important contributions of Indian culture, and impactful leaders in Indian history.

Physical Aspects: 

This garden features a ten-foot tall bronze sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi. The base of the sculpture is inscribed with the Gandhi quote: “I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.”  It also has 6 granite pillars, each representing a different core tradition of Indian culture. The 6 pillars include: Universal Brotherhood, Legacy, Artistic Traditions, Leadership, Modern India, and Connections. Each pillar also includes names of important figures within each of the topics. The walkway also features inscriptions of “welcome” in English and the 15 major languages of India.
